His debut single "Afe Nkap was a massive success as it made waves on, radio, TV, and on the web. In an exclusive interview, Ngoma talks about his music journey, the challenges of the Cameroon music industry, His inspiration and his plans for the future.
Hi Ngoma, what have you been up to?
Hey jenny, well first of all its a pleasure having this interview with you, I have been down with my everyday hustle, down with the "Afe Nkap" state of mind.
How did it all start for you, when were you sure you wanted to do music?
I think music has always been a thing for me, as I started mimicking other artist at the age of 10, and began writing my own lyrics at the age of 13(basically the western kind of rap) Back then I wasn't too sure about the whole music thing, because I was still too young, but kept on dreaming. but as I came of age things changed and I finally recorded my first single "Afe Nkap" and the rest is history.
where are you from?
I am from the northwest region , Awing to be precise and I grew up in limbe.
How was growing up for you?
Growing up wasn't easy at all, but growing up with very little instilled the virtue of patience in me, but being an African I hoped and dreamed that one day things will get better.
How do you define your music?
I do Afro beat/Rap blend every aspect of my life and every language I speak into my music. I am Ngoma and I am music ( as Ngoma means music in Swahili)
The music industry of Cameroon is quite young. What are some the challenges you have had to face as a young artist?
Basically being a young artist and coming up with something is already a challenge as most of the music consumed locally is of the old era (Makossa, Bikutsi etc). But I believe with time there is going to be some kind of "mutumbu revolution", and am certain that an official introduction to show business in Cameroon will ne made.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
I get my inspiration from God, and I always thank him for this gift. my lyrics always come when I have inner peace, and when am in a calm environment, and though this is weird, my toilet is my power station.
Your hit single "Afe Nkap" was a huge success, did you ever think it will be that big?
Well It was a huge surprise to me, and I was overwhelmed by its success. I sang it in the dialect(Ngemba) and I used to wonder how it will be like to sing in the dialect. But am glad it was successful and there is still more to come.
Which artist do you look up to in the industry and why?
I will rest my case on that, given it is still a young industry as you previously said.
How is your relationship with other artist in the industry?
My relationship is of green status as I always tend to by pass the protocol driving towards friendship. I believe in teamwork (#team237), and I believe together as brothers and sisters we all are going to attain our dreams.
You look quite young, how young are you?
Hhahahahaahhaha( he laughs) my age is kind of personal, so you should just know me as a "young black boy"
Where do you see yourself and the music industry in Cameroon five years from now?
More accomplished than I ever dreamt of by the Grace of God. They say "hard work pays" and I say "I no come for here for burst pimples", so definitely I foresee my songs on charts.
You are a good looking young man, with lots of female fans both in Cameroon and out of Cameroon , and they will love to know if you are single, taken , or searching?
Thanks for the compliment, am very open to friendship, and my relationship status is very complicated. I also believe in boundaries just so they don't get too comfortable.
What can the fans expect from Ngoma in the last quarter of 2014, and in the future?
There's a lot of heat in the kitchen, as I plan on releasing my next single "Kamer Obosso" next month and I promise good music coming from me throughout my career.
Any words for up and coming artist in the industry?
#WORK #WORK #WORK, there's nothing one can every get without hard work and we all know hard work pays. So just do what y'all do and do it best. #KamerObosso
Thank you so much for hanging with me Ngoma and I wish you all the best!
Thank you too and it was my pleasure!

GASHA PARTS WAYS WITH RECORD LABEL!
Popular music act Gasha parted ways with music label "Stevens music entertainment this past weekend. They both came to this decision on Saturday June 7 2014 in Douala after a year of partnership and released a statement to confirm it.
After a year of partnership that has added tremendous value to SME and Gasha, we have jointly reached a mutual agreement to terminate our partnership. we worked hard to keep our partnership going. However, after a great deal of thought, reflection and discussion, we reached a conclusion that while we want the best for each other we are better of separated.
Both parties ended up wishing each other success in their carriers.
